Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance is standard for almost all companies, and it protects you against: a) injury to a customer at your place of business, and b) injury or damages caused by your employees at a client location. If you are negligent or liable for the damage, loss, or injury, your company’s assets will still be protected.
Products Liability Insurance provides coverage for negligence resulting in injury from a product manufactured or sold by your company.
Fiduciary Liability protects your company and the individuals within your company acting as fiduciaries, in regards to your benefit, pension, welfare or retirement plans. It covers liability from negligence and violations of responsibilities, obligations and duties imposed through ERISA, and such things as: interpretation of plans, records handling, enrollment administration, and termination or cancellation of employees under those plans.
Similar to Fiduciary Liability, Employee Benefit Liability will protect your company against claims made in regards to negligence, error or omission in the management of an employee’s public or private benefits. An example would be the failure to enroll a new employee in your company’s health insurance program in a timely manner, resulting in an unpaid claim.
As soon as your company takes on its first employee, Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) is probably a good idea. This liability insurance protects you, the employer, against claims by employees (current, former and potential) for issues of discrimination (sex, age, race, religion, etc.), sexual harassment, wrongful termination, or any other employment-related allegation. Employment Practices Liability protects you and your Directors and Officers from financial loss, protects your assets, and helps to cover the cost of your legal defense.
Pollution Liability coverage was put in place to protect you from exposure to state and federal pollution standards. This coverage is an add-on to your existing general liability policy, and provides coverage for bodily injury, property damage, and clean up costs resulting from specified perils. Two types of Pollution Liability coverage are available: Named Perils Coverage – coverage for pollution losses resulting from named perils. Time Element Insurance – coverage for pollution losses resulting from a pollution event discovered within a specific number of days and reported within a certain time period.
Liquor Liability provides coverage for bodily injury or property damage for which you may be held liable due to: a) contributing to the intoxication of a person, b) furnishing alcoholic beverages under the legal drinking age, or c) violating any statute or ordinance regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages. This coverage applies if your company a) manufactures, sells or distributes alcoholic beverages, b) serves alcoholic beverages for a charge, whether licensed or not, or c) serves alcoholic beverages without a charge, if licensed for such activity.
